MOBILE WEEE (WASTE ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT) COLLECTIONS 2012
WEEE Ireland, the Irish compliance scheme for electrical and battery recycling, will hold a series of WEEE collections throughout County Galway starting on September 11th 2012. These collections, supported by Galway County Council, will allow people from towns and villages across the county to get rid of any household electrical equipment and batteries in a safe and environmentally friendly manner. WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) collections are scheduled for the following locations in Galway: Leenane, Letterfrack, Roundstone, Cárna, Leitir Móir, Indreabhán, Oughterard, Maigh Cuilinn, Headford, Corr na Móna, Athenry, Claregalway, Abbeyknockmoy, Monivea, Clarinbridge, Kinvara, Abbey, Woodford, Kiltormer, Eyrecourt, Williamstown, Glenamaddy, Cill Chiaráin, Ros Muc, Casla, An Spidéal, and Bearna.

Septic Tank Registration
Septic Tank Registration The Water Services (Amendment) Act 2012 provides for the introduction of a registration and inspection system for domestic wastewater treatment systems. It has been introduced to address the European Court of Justice ruling against Ireland in October 2009, and even more importantly, to protect ground and surface water quality (particularly drinking water sources) from the risks posed by malfunctioning systems.

The County Mayors Awards 2012 is to take place this November. Building on the success of last years Awards, the number of categories has been increased from eight to eleven categories. The purpose of the week is to create awareness of social exclusion issues and highlight the work that happens to tackle it by groups and organisation. Galway County Council delivers savings and efficiencies of €5.25m
Galway County Council recently reported on savings of €5.25 million in the 12 month period ending the 31st March 2012. The savings consisted of €3.05 million in pay and €2.2 million in non-pay including savings made in the areas of procurement and work practice changes.

Galway County Council wishes to advise that the public consultation period in relation to the emerging Preferred Route Corridor for the R336 Bearna to Scríb via Ros an Mhíl Road Improvement Scheme has been extended by six weeks. The closing date for receipt of submissions is now Friday, 28th September, 2012.

‘fixyourstreet’ facilitates the reporting of non emergency issues concerning street lighting, drainage, graffiti, illegal dumping, and road and footpath maintenance to Comhairle Chontae na Gaillimhe/Galway County Council. The publicly accessible website also allows citizens to monitor the response and interact with the Council on the issue reported through the system.
