MOBILE WEEE (WASTE ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT) COLLECTIONS 2012
WEEE Ireland, the Irish compliance scheme for electrical and battery recycling, will hold a series of WEEE collections throughout County Galway starting on September 11th 2012. These collections, supported by Galway County Council, will allow people from towns and villages across the county to get rid of any household electrical equipment and batteries in a safe and environmentally friendly manner. WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) collections are scheduled for the following locations in Galway: Leenane, Letterfrack, Roundstone, Cárna, Leitir Móir, Indreabhán, Oughterard, Maigh Cuilinn, Headford, Corr na Móna, Athenry, Claregalway, Abbeyknockmoy, Monivea, Clarinbridge, Kinvara, Abbey, Woodford, Kiltormer, Eyrecourt, Williamstown, Glenamaddy, Cill Chiaráin, Ros Muc, Casla, An Spidéal, and Bearna.WEEE Ireland name Galway County Council winner at the 2012 Repak Awards
WEEE Ireland selected Galway County Council as the winner of the WEEE Ireland Best Participating Local Authority for their participation in WEEE Ireland’s WEEE Wagon campaign.

Septic Tank Registration
Septic Tank Registration The Water Services (Amendment) Act 2012 provides for the introduction of a registration and inspection system for domestic wastewater treatment systems. It has been introduced to address the European Court of Justice ruling against Ireland in October 2009, and even more importantly, to protect ground and surface water quality (particularly drinking water sources) from the risks posed by malfunctioning systems.

The County Mayors Awards 2012 is to take place this November. Building on the success of last years Awards, the number of categories has been increased from eight to eleven categories. This year the Heritage Awards have been amalgamated into the County Mayors Awards and a new Corporate Responsibility Award has also been added. Click above for more information.
Social Inclusion Awareness Week 2012
Social Inclusion Awareness Week 2012 will take place from 15th – 21st October. The purpose of the week is to create awareness of social exclusion issues and highlight the work that happens to tackle it by groups and organisation. Galway County Council recently reported on savings of €5.25 million in the 12 month period ending the 31st March 2012. Impact of reduction of €3.1 million in Local Government Fund Allocation

Galway County Council wishes to advise that the public consultation period in relation to the emerging Preferred Route Corridor for the R336 Bearna to Scríb via Ros an Mhíl Road Improvement Scheme has been extended by six weeks. The closing date for receipt of submissions is now Friday, 28th September, 2012.

From Tuesday 26th June 2012 owners of domestic waste water treatment systems will be required to register their systems on www.protectourwater.ie or with their water services authority – currently the local authority. Click for further information.
fixyourstreet for Galway County
‘fixyourstreet’ facilitates the reporting of non emergency issues concerning street lighting, drainage, graffiti, illegal dumping, and road and footpath maintenance to Comhairle Chontae na Gaillimhe/Galway County Council. The publicly accessible website also allows citizens to monitor the response and interact with the Council on the issue reported through the system.
