The objective of the Draft Regional Planning Guidelines is to provide a long-term strategic planning framework for the development of the Region.  It is supported by a Draft Strategic Environmental Assessment Environmental Report on the likely significant effects on the environment of implementing the Guidelines; a Draft Habitats Directive Assessment 92/43/EEC (Article 6) Screening of potential effects to the management and integrity of Natura 2000 sites due to the implementation of the Guidelines; and a Draft Regional Flood Risk Appraisal which is consistent with The Planning System & Flood Risk Management - Guidelines for Planning Authorities 2009.

Submissions or observations with respect to the Draft Regional Planning Guidelines; Draft SEA Environmental Report; Draft Habitats Directive Assessment Screening; Draft Regional Flood Risk Appraisal should be made in writing to the West Regional Authority, 1st Floor, Woodquay Court, Woodquay, Galway between 22nd January 2010 – 9th April 2010.  All written observations and submissions lodged by the closing date will be taken into consideration before the Guidelines are adopted.

Copies of the Draft Regional Planning Guidelines for the West Region 2010-2022 (which is available in Irish) and supporting documents can be inspected during normal office hours (excluding public holidays) at the Planning Offices within the region; A fee will be payable for hard copies of the documents. In accordance with Section 24(4) of the Planning & Development Acts 2000-2006, the West Regional Authority hereby give notice of Draft Regional Planning Guidelines for the West Region 2010 - 2022. The Draft Regional Planning Guidelines have been prepared in accordance with the Planning & Development Acts 2000-2006, the Planning & Development (Regional Planning Guidelines) Regulations 2009 and the Planning & Development (Strategic Environmental Assessment) Regulations 2004. The West Region covers the administrative areas of Roscommon County Council, Mayo County Council, Galway County Council and Galway City Council.
