Recreation and Amenity Framework

Galway County Council has allocated over €2m to twelve community and sports Groups across the County to develop a range of all-weather pitches suitable for five a side football and multi-use games areas that can accommodate a number of sport and recreation activities.

The allocations were based on a competitive process under the Councils Recreation & Amenity Framework with at least two groups being supported in each Electoral Area. Funding ranged from €70,000 to a maximum €200,000 and each group funded will manage the facility upon completion.

Each group funded has ensured that the facility is available for use by the wider community and that access is given to local schools free of charge.

The Recreation and Amenity Framework is funded through the Councils Development Contribution Scheme and the groups facilitated to date are:

  1. Belclare / Sylane Community Council
  2. Moyne Villa FC Headford
  3. Oranmore Community Development Association
  4. Clonfert Community Sportsfield Committee
  5. Skehana Community Development Menlough
  6. St. Paul’s Secondary School Oughterard
  7. St Joseph’s NS Kinvara
  8. Gort Community & Leisure Centre
  9. Portumna Town FC

Facilities at Clifden and Bearna should be completed in 2010
