Audio Books
We have approximately five hundred books on audio tape or audio CD. These are recordings of well known actors and actresses reading an entire book. Some of the books are abridged but most are not. These books may be borrowed from many of our libraries.
In conjunction with An Post, we post audio books to people who are visually impaired. This is a free service. To avail of this service email your details or phone 00 353 91 562471.
Catalogue of Audio Books
The catalogue of audio books is available on paper and we can post this to you. It is also available as a text file which we can email to you. Finally, it is available in DAISY format. We can post this to you on Cd (the file is approximately fifty megabytes in size).
To access the file in this format you will require a DAISY reader. This is either a hand-held device or a computer running the appropriate reader software.
To request the catalogue email us and specify the format or formats you desire.
Sourcing Etexts
It is also possilbe to download books in plain text or in HTML (a web page) from certain web sites. Books in these formats can be read by computer software with a speech synthesiser installed. Project Gutenberg is one good source of such books.
