The aim of this guide is to assist the family historian and amateur genealogist with their research. It highlights the most useful primary and secondary source material available to those beginning searches for ancestors. In particular it highlights material accessible at Galway County Libraries and Galway County Council Archives, Island House, Galway. The guide is arranged for the most part by listing classes of record in order of usefulness. Thereafter any required sectional subdivision is generally arranged chronologically.
