Heavy Goods Vehicle
- i.e. unladen weight over 1524kgs

  1. Application Form fully completed & signed.
  2. Log Book or Vehicle Licensing Certificate or Registration Certificate
  3. Name of Insurance Company, Policy Number and expiry date of Certificate
  4. Certificate of Roadworthiness (CRW). If your vechicle is over 1 year old from date of first registration then you require a current Certificate of Roadworthiness. If you do not have a current CRW you must submit a Pass Statement obtainable from an authorised tester. This CRW will be valid for one year from date of test.
  5. The fee payable for the CRW is as follows:
    • €6 if the D.G.V.W. is less than 3500kgs
    • €13 if the D.G.V.W. is 3501kgs or more
  6. Printed weight docket for new and first taxing of imported heavy goods vechicles from authorised weightbridge.
  7. Correct Fee plus fee for CRW if applicable -Link with commerical rates.
Payment may be made by cheque, made payable to Galway County Council cash, postal order, money order or credit card. Do not send cash in the post.

Light Goods Vehicle
- i.e. unladen weight 1524kgs or Less.

Please note that first time taxing of commercial vehicles with body types; Jeep; Crew Cab; Sports utility Vehicle are subject to inspection at the local motor taxation office.

  1. Application Form fully completed & signed.
  2. Log Book or Vehicle Licensing Certificate or Registration Certificate
  3. Name of Insurance Company, Policy Number and expiry date of Certificate
  4. Certificate of Roadworthiness (CRW). If your vechicle is over 1 year old from date of first registration then you require a current Certificate of Roadworthiness. If you do not have a current CRW you must obtain a Pass Statement obtainable from an authorised tester. This CRW will be valid for one year from date of test.

    • €13 if the D.G.V.W. is 3501kgs or more
  6. Goods Declaration Form completed on your first taxing of the vehicle in your name. This form must be witnessed at the Garda Station.
  7. Printed weight docket for first taxing of imported/first registered light goods vehicles.
  8. Correct Fee plus fee for CRW if applicable..
Payment may be made by cheque, made payable to Galway County Council, cash, postal order, money order or credit card. Do not send cash in the post.
