Control of Horses

The Control of Horses Act 1996 was introduced to provide for the control and licensing of horses in urban and other areas where horses can cause a danger to persons or property or a nuisance. The Act enables local authorities to make bye-laws. The Council made bye-laws under the Act in August 1998 which came into operation on 1st October, 1998. The bye-laws were made for the purpose of control , licensing,detention and disposal of horses. They apply to the functional area of Galway County Council and Ballinasloe urban area.
