Community Employment Scheme

The Council is a public sector sponsor of community employment schemes which are administered by FÁS. Applications for renewal of schemes are submitted to FÁS annually. Approval for a scheme sets out the number of workers, the location and nature of works. The participants on the Scheme are recruited from the Live Register and a Supervisor is employed on each scheme. Participants can avail of training courses which are aimed at maximising future employment opportunities, through education in specific manual and technical skills and providing workers with the confidence to use these skills.  There is a training budget of €500 available to each participant on the Scheme per annum.  There are currently five Schemes in operation in the County as follows:  Moycullen/ Collinamuck; Laurencetown/ Abbey; Tuam; Clifden/ Roundstone and Oranmore/ Gort.
