Background

The National Road Needs Study (1998)

The National Roads Authority retained the services of consulting engineers to undertake a survey of all national roads in Ireland and form a Strategic Plan for their improvement. Inefficiencies in the existing network were identified and the results were published in the National Road Needs Study. This report estimated that approximately £ 6 billion would be required to upgrade the existing road network in the period 2000 – 2019. Consequently, the National Road Needs Study formed the basis of the Governments National Development
