Galway County Council provides a number of youth supports.
Comhairle na nÓg
County Galway Comhairle na nÓg is a local youth council which gives young people an opportunity to discuss and consult on issues that are important to them. This gives them the opportunity to express their opinions and listen to the views of other people and policy makers. Comhairle na nÓg were set up under the National Children’s Strategy (2000) in the 34 City and County Development Boards around the country.
Local Area Comhairlí
There are 6 Local Area Comhairlí – Ballinasloe, Loughrea, Oranmore, Tuam, and Connemara (North Connemara covering the non-Irish speaking and South Connemara covering Irish speaking). They meet as often as they can and contact details for each of the areas are attached below.

County Wide Committee
In addition to the local area committees, a County wide committee meets once a month, usually on Saturdays in the Jigsaw offices in Galway City. The committee members are selected to represent their local area on this committee. As well as working on a ‘County Wide Issue’ the county committee gets involved in national consultations and attends a number of events nationally and locally.
Every year County Galway Comhairle na nÓg holds an Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Dáil na nÓg
Dáil na nÓg is the National Youth Parliament of Ireland. It gives young people the opportunity to represent the views of those under the age of 18 years at a national level and to call for change to improve the lives of young people in Ireland. Young people are elected to Dáil na nÓg through their local Comhairle na nÓg. One representative from each Comhairle na nÓg is elected to the Dáil na nÓg Council. They work on recommendations from the Dáil and try to make changes for young people in those areas.
