Adopted Variation No. 2(a) to the Galway County Development Plan 2015-2021- Bearna Plan (Written Statement) - Adopted 23rd July 2018
The new Bearna LAP will be incorporated into the Galway County Development Plan, 2012-2021, by way of a variation to the existing county development plan. This will ensure the new LAP is fully consistent with the County Development Plan, which is the overarching land-use plan for all LAPs in County Galway. The purpose of this Issues Paper is intended to get you thinking about the type of land-use issues that might be
addressed in the new Bearna Local Area Plan, and to encourage you to make a submission on these issues, or any other planning issues that you think are important. It is also provides an important opportunity for the residents of Bearna village and its environs to get involved in the plan preparation process.

Bearna Local Area Plan Public Consultation Poster
Galway County Council is pleased to present the Bearna Local Area Plan 2007-2017. This follows an extensive public consultation process undertaken to inform the preparation of the Plan. This included public consultation at the pre-draft, draft and material alteration/amendment stages in the plan preparation process.
As part of the pre-draft consultation process, Galway County Council held a public workshop and invited written submissions from the general public. The attendance of the public workshop, which was held to obtain the views of the local community at an early stage in the planning process, was very encouraging and highlights the high level of interest that people have in the future of the village. This culminated in the publication of the Bearna Local Area Plan Pre-Draft Public Consultation Report in May 2006 summarising the main outcomes of the pre-draft consultation process.
The public consultation process has raised a variety of issues on planning for the area. This has provided a strong foundation for preparing a LAP that, it is hoped, is relevant and responsive to the needs of the Local Community.
