EU Sustainable Energy Week 2011 takes place from 11th to 15th April 2011. Galway County Council are hosting a schedule of events in Tuam this year to showcase energy efficiency and renewable energy during the week. All are welcome to come and participate in the events, which are all free of charge.

The Energy Exhibition will have information for homes, schools, offices and business on how to cut energy costs, improve energy efficiency and give guidance on renewable energy technologies. Information packs are available to take home & energy advisors are available to answer your queries.

If you would like more in-depth knowledge on any of the following topics please drop in to the lunchtime workshops – these are informal sessions where you can learn more from local suppliers on: Energy Grants, Insulation, Energy Efficient Lighting, Wind Turbines and Solar Panels (PV and Water Heating). The Galway Energy Agency will be available for advise on Energy Grants for homes and businesses alike.

The library are hosting Energy Storytelling events through the local schools.

Ballinasloe Library will be launching a collection of over 70 Energy related books during the week, with topics for adults and children alike, from biomass to sun-cooked recipes! Take the opportunity to learn more about energy during the week by checking out the Book Launch.

Finally the highlight of the week is the exciting launch of Tuam as a Sustainable Energy Community. This new venture is a collaborative effort by public and private partners interested in making Tuam a more sustainable community which aims to be more energy efficient, uses renewable energy and develops decentralised energy supplies.
