Statement by Galway County Council
Friday 19 March 2021
Galway County Council has been made aware this morning that signage has been erected at the site of the former Tuam Mother and Baby Home.
This signage was not erected with the consent of the Council and the Council was not consulted and had no knowledge of the proposal to erect the signage or who took this course of action.
The Council is aware of the upset caused by the signage and accordingly has made arrangements for its removal.
The Council is fully committed to supporting the full range of actions agreed by Government in relation to the Tuam site, including appropriate memorialisation.
It is essential that all actions taken in relation to the site are on the basis of an open and transparent consultation process that affords priority to the survivors, their families and all those with a personal connection to the former Mother and Baby Home.
