Met Éireann have issued an Orange wind warning for Galway from 03:00 on Friday, 18th February 2022 to 11:00 on Friday, 18th February 2022.

Storm Eunice will track quickly over Ireland tonight bringing severe and damaging winds for a time.  Heavy rainfall/sleet/snow and storm surge coinciding with high tides may result in some coastal flooding. Some disruption is likely.

Galway County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team met this afternoon to discuss the potential impact of the storm.

The speed of the track of the storm will see variation of wind direction and may cause some structural damage or fallen trees in the early hours of the morning.

There is a high risk of flying debris, fallen trees and powerlines.  The public are advised to avoid fallen power lines and requested to ensure that garden furniture parasols, bins, and other objects in their gardens and around their properties are secure. Businesses and construction sites are requested to ensure property is secured and the public is requested to report fallen trees to the county council at the numbers below.

The public are advised to avoid coastal routes, to make alternative route plans where possible and to avoid making unnecessary journeys.  Members of the public should not visit coastal areas to view the storm conditions as this is considered extremely dangerous.

Please take precautions to stay safe and the public are reminded to make contact with elderly or vulnerable neighbours.
