The EPA is responsible for the licensing and regulation of large/complex industrial, agricultural and other processes with significant pollution potential.  Local Authorities continue to be responsible for the licensing and control of activities which are not licensable by the Agency.

The aim is to control air pollution in order to ensure the protection of air quality.  This is achieved by way of licensing of emissions and monitoring of air quality.

Each local authority keeps a register of licenses issued and this register is available for public inspection. Galway County Council has issued at present 4 Air Licences for Asphalt Batching Plants.
