Weather warning from Galway County Council 5th & 6th April 2024

Storm Kathleen is currently en route to Ireland and will bring gale-force southerly winds, with some severe and damaging gusts.
Possible impacts:
• Very difficult travel conditions
• Fallen trees
• Some power outages
• Coastal flooding
• Wave overtopping
Met Eireann has posted the following warnings which affect Co. Galway:
Status Yellow Wind Warning for Ireland (nationwide) for Saturday 5am to 8pm
Status Orange Wind Warning for Galway and Mayo for Saturday 9am to 6pm
Status Orange Storm Warning from Roche’s Point to Loop Head to Rossan Point Saturday 7am to 1pm

Galway County Council advises motorists to slow down and allow greater braking distances in the wet weather, especially on roads like motorways and dual carriageways, where there is a risk of aquaplaning.
Strong winds may lead to fallen trees, fallen powerlines, and debris on the roads. Motorists should exercise extreme caution.
Galway County Council continue to monitor the situation and crews are on standby.
